Muhammad Zeeshan Shakir

Muhammad Zeeshan Shakir is a distinguished Professor of Wireless Communication at the University of the West of Scotland and the Director of the UWS Digital Connectivity and Innovation for Sustainable Futures. With over two decades of experience, he has successfully secured over £9 Million in research funding from prestigious organizations such as Innovate UK, the ERASMUS program, UK Government, Qatar National Research Fund, British Council, NIHR, and the Scottish Government.

Prof. Shakir’s expertise spans cutting-edge digital technologies, including 5G/6G networks, the Internet of Things (IoT), and artificial intelligence (AI). He has published over 200 research articles and contributed significantly to more than ten highly regarded books. His outstanding work has earned him numerous prestigious awards, including the Award of Excellence for Outstanding Knowledge Transfer Partnerships from Innovate UK (2023, 2018), the Herald Higher Education Award (2023), and the SAMEE STEM Inspiring Diversity and Inclusion Award (2022). He also received the IEEE Communications Society Fred W. Ellersick Award (2021) and the IEEE Communications Society and China Institute of Communications Best Journal Article Award (2019).

Prof. Shakir is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy in the UK and a Senior Member of IEEE. He remains actively involved with the IEEE Communications Society and the Royal Society of Edinburgh Young Academy of Scotland, reflecting his dedication to advancing academia and technology.
